Virginia started writing professionally in 1900 for the Times Literary Supplement with a journalistic piece about Haworth. Virginia's first novel The Voyage Out, the book was published in 1915 by her half-brother imprint Gerald Duckworth and Company Ltd. Virginia went on to write more essays and novels to the public with critical and popular success. Most of these were self published through the Hogarth Press. Woolf was considered one of the first twentieth century modernists. After World War II Virginia's reputation declined sharply, her eminence was reestablished with Feminist Criticism in the 1970's.
Feminist Criticism in the 1970's rose Woolf's reputation as a feminist making her known as the woman who had a hand in feminism today. In A Room of One's Own Woolf writes about how if women had money and privacy they would be able to write fiction and books of which topic they chose. A Room of One's Own - which is a essay - shows that then in Woolf's time the men had all the money and property, therefore the women were poor as they did not have any money to spend for themselves. Many of the critics that reviewed Woolf's essay conflicted about whether or not this was Woolf's view of feminism. Either way, Woolf's essay changed the lives of many people, most of those people are women. Thank you Adeline Virginia Woolf
